Soy Sauce Braised Chicken
I remember this dish being one of Mama’s go to dish when she knew my brother & I were bringing friends over. It was such a simple dish to make and our friends were kept FULL because of the protein. I’ve gotten many comments on how this is very similar to Filipino Chicken Adobo and that’s honestly so awesome. So if there are my Filipino friends on here feel free to contact me via email provided in contact page & share how you make your chicken adobo 🙂 Mama and I would LOVE to learn more about different cuisines.

This dish is very versatile as you can make it spicy by adding gochujang or you can add potatoes, rice cakes, glass noodles, etc!

@hoemgirl this dish was so highly requested! She used measurements this time 😀 #koreanfoodrecipe #homecooking #momscooking #koreanfoodiaries ♬ original sound - Sarah 호정 Kim

Shall we get started?

Ingredients (per 10 chicken legs):

  • Chicken seasoning
  • 500 mL milk
  • 1TBSP minced garlic
  • ½TBSP salt
  • ½TBSP black pepper
  • Marinade
  • ½ cup and 3T soy sauce
  • 2TBSP oyster sauce
  • 3TBSP sake
  • ½TBSP black pepper
  • ½ cup corn syrup
  • 3TBSP minced garlic
  • 2 and ½ cup water
  • Optional – 1 yellow onion + 1 green onion (for garnish)

How to Make:

  • 1. Combine milk, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper in a bowl. Soak 10 chicken legs in this for 2 hours – this is to get rid of the smell of chicken & to make it more tender! Leave it in the fridge.
  • 2. Bring the chicken legs to a light boil until the outer layer is no longer pink.
  • 3. Drain water and rinse the chicken legs.
  • 4. Score the chicken so that flavors can penetrate and marinate well.
  • 5. Peel the skin off (optional) and place them flat on a pan.
  • 6. Let’s make a marinade! Combine all the marinade ingredients listed (soy sauce, oyster sauce, sake, corn syrup, minced garlic, black pepper, and water) in a bowl.
  • 7. Heat your pan on high heat, and pour the marinade over the chicken.
  • 8. When it starts boiling, bring it down to medium heat. Flip the chicken so it cooks evenly!
  • 9. After 30 to 40 minutes, the marinade should have thickened up! Bring it down to low heat, and make sure it is thoroughly cooked.
  • 9. Feel free to add chopped up onions/green onions as garnish.
  • 9. ENJOY!
