Rice Cake Soup
It is a Korean tradition to eat 떡국 (“tteokguk” which literally translates to rice cake soup) on New Year’s Day. We say that we gain a year of age and good luck of the year when we finish a bowl of tteokguk.

Shall we get started?
Ingredients:
- 2 cup chicken broth
- 1 cup rice cakes (sliced ones)
- 1 TBSP minced garlic
- 1 TBSP Fish sauce
- ¼ cup green onion
- 2 eggs
- Seaweed
- Sesame seeds
- Sesame oil
How to Make:
- 1. Put chicken broth in a pot and bring it to a boil. When it starts to boil, add sliced rice cakes.
- 2. Add minced garlic and green onion. Taste the broth and season it with fish sauce to your liking! Simmer it until rice cakes are cooked and soft.
- 3. Separate egg yolks and egg whites and fry them separately into a thin sheet. Cut them into thin strips.
- 4. Put the rice cake soup in a bowl and garnish it with egg strips, seaweed strips, and sesame seeds. You can add some sesame oil as well.
- 5. ENJOY!
